The Civic Hybrid's trunk measures only 10 cubic feet (due to the battery pack), which is almost 50 percent smaller than that of the Toyota Prius (the Prius can also expand further thanks to its hatchback body style and flip-down seats). Honda's Fit hatchback is also much roomier (max cargo is 20.6 cubes, while most other dimensions are comparable). Nevertheless, the Civic's trunk easily swallowed two sets of golf clubs, and one or two small luggage pieces will also fit at the same time. Our child safety seat fit just fine in the rear seat, though, as can be expected in a compact sedan, it reduced the range of seat travel for the front passenger when installed facing the rear.

Despite its low-slung roof line, the DBS provides impressive headroom, even for a 6-foot-3 driver, and good visibility on par with that offered by an Audi TT. Legroom is also impressive, with the eight-way power driver seat providing a wide range of adjustment. Sadly, the passenger seat does not adjust for height, which can make it difficult to find a comfortable position.

Mitsubishi Lancer GTS Function

Like its loosely related Dodge Caliber platform mate, the 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS sports a relatively high roof line and a beltline to match. The driving position is consequently somewhat bathtublike, even for the long of torso, though jacking up the driver seat can help. That hang glider of a spoiler may look menacing from the outside, but from the driver's perspective it just compromises rearward visibility.
